How pricing works

One flat diagnostic, quoted when you book

The fee is the same at every door. It covers the trip and the testing, and it comes off the repair if you go ahead.

  • The diagnostic visit

Find out what's wrong, in plain words, before you decide anything.

    • The trip to your door
    • Power, pressures and airflow tested
    • The cause, in plain words
    • A written repair price, held for 30 days
    • The repair itself, parts and labor
    • A quote for a new system

Credited toward the repair when you approve it at the visit. If you say no, you owe the diagnostic fee and nothing more.

After the diagnostic

What moves a repair price

The written price lists each part and each hour, so you can see what's driving it.

Two units with the same symptom can cost very different amounts. These are the things that decide it.

  • The part that failed, and whether it comes from the maker or a matching replacement

  • Whether the part is in the van or has to be ordered

  • How hard the unit is to reach: attic, crawlspace or ground level

  • How much of the unit is wearing out, not only the part that stopped

  • Whether more than one visit is needed

What a written repair price lists

Each part and each hour on its own line, so nothing is hidden in a total. These are examples; your price has your own parts and labor.

  • Sample repair price: no cooling

A written repair price for a unit that runs but doesn't cool. These lines are an example; yours has your own parts and labor.

    • Dual-run capacitor
    • Labor to replace and test it
    • Test run after the repair
    • The old part, if you want to see it
    • Diagnostic fee, credited

The diagnostic fee is credited when you approve the repair at the visit. The written price holds for 30 days.

  • Sample repair price: no heat

A written repair price for a gas furnace that clicks and won't light.

    • Hot-surface igniter
    • Flame sensor
    • Labor to replace and test both
    • Test run after the repair
    • Diagnostic fee, credited

The diagnostic fee is credited when you approve the repair at the visit. The written price holds for 30 days.

These are examples, not a quote for your system.

Questions about the price

Why charge for a diagnostic at all?

A proper diagnosis takes testing, and testing takes time and a trip. A flat fee, quoted when you book, means nobody pads it or hides it in the repair. If you repair with us, the fee comes off.

What if I say no to the repair?

Then you owe the diagnostic fee and nothing else. You keep the written price and can use it to compare, or to decide later.

How long does the written price hold?

Thirty days, and it says so on the page I give you. If parts have changed in price after that, I tell you before you decide.

How do I pay?

When the work is done and tested, by card, check or cash. The invoice matches the written price unless you approved a change.
